These very special and unusal pottery piggy banks were made in Mexico during the 1940's. A few years ago, a rare trove of these piggy banks were found in a tumbledown warehouse on the original factory grounds. These coin banks were never made made for export, they were intended for the regional / national market in Mexico.

These vintage pottery piggy banks are one of Mexico Primitivo's favorite discoveries ― they exhibit both artistic whimsy and attention to life-like details.

As would be expected, due to their age, their original paint has faded in many places, leaving a wonderful aged patina. In some cases, tiny fissures are apparent, as would be expected of pottery objects their age.

An expert collector has estimated that fewer than 2,500 of these piggy banks survived the test of time. Though, as yet relatively unknown in the US, they have already gathered an avid following of collectors.

We are proud to be able to share some of these wonderful banks with you.
